Air Traffic Control Entities

ASCI 202: 8.2 Air Traffic Control Entities
Discussion 8.2: Air Traffic Control Entities

There are many entities intertwined into aviation. Flight data and local control are key factors in the safety of the pilots, their aircraft, and the passengers onboard.  The positions in the tower have very different roles to play but are alike in some ways. Aviation revolves around the safety and both these positions determine that factor
Flight data’s primary duties include coordination with ground and local control, notifying agencies that an emergency occurred, and coordination with different facilities, such as; departure and approach. Flight data can be the most difficult position in the tower at times, recording information and relaying as needed can become hectic. Emergency aircraft in need of medical or fire rescue depend on the control on the flight data position to transfer information quickly enough to be effective.
Local control is responsible for aircraft on the active runway departing or landing, and all aircraft airborne within the designated airspace (Air Traffic Control Tower, 2019, P. 1). The local controller or tower controller is usually the most difficult and high stress position in the tower. The position requires a high level of focus throughout the day ensuring separation and safety is present. Local control communicates with flight data with any aircraft requesting clearances, aircraft relaying emergencies, and any other information that might be resourceful.
All positions in a tower can be high stress and weight bearing; Flight data and local control at my facility compete to be the most active position. Both remain busy through the day constantly safeguarding pilots and the aircraft for their flights.
